"Yet even in certain defeat, the courageous Trager secretly clung to the belief that life is not merely a series of meaningless accidents or coincidences. Uh-uh. But rather it's a tapestry of events that culminate in an exquisite, sublime plan."

I did domestic things today, like watering my mom’s perishing houseplants and doing the groceries. As I stood in the supermarket debating over Coco Puffs and healthy, bland cereal guaranteed to give you a nutty crunch with each bite (I ended up opting for Coco Puffs), I couldn’t help but notice this little kid walk past me in his school uniform, come to an abrupt halt a few feet away from me in front of the chocolate section (I had to steer clear of that area because I have weak willpower ), and just sort of give this loud gasp as he took in the array of chocolate confectionaries. His eyes just sort of widened and glazed over.  I swear, if he were a cartoon, you would have been able to see a little thought bubble above his head and a big chocolate explosion.    Anyway, after awhile, it appeared like he was debating over whether to buy a bar of Hershey’s Cookies and Cream chocolate, or Snickers. I saw him peek at the price tags of the larger bars before crouching down to look at the price tags of the smaller ones. He then whipped out his wallet and emptied its contents into his palm. Anyways, there he stood with two chocolate bars in his hand and the other full of coins as he started counting them – aloud! – coin, by coin, by coin, before finally letting out this loud exasperated sigh. Haha, how cute!  Poor kid, I guess he didn’t have enough money for the larger bars. Nevertheless, he still seemed content with his selection and skipped off with the smaller bars in hand. Isn't that great how the lesser goods still managed to satisfy him?  Adults could learn a lot from the younger folk.

I later stopped by Blockbuster and rented some fun chick flicks (How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days & Serendipity) because I knew my mom would love them. Oh. My. God. I love Serendipity (John Cusack, too ). I don’t know why I never watched it before, but I suppose it’s because I always thought that it’d just turn out to be another cheesy, stereotypical romance film. Now that I’ve watched it, however, man oh man, what a perfect romantic comedy!

Love in the time of cholera by Marquez

Unlike what I had initially feared, the movie isn’t overtly lovey dovey at all, but instead has a driving emotional intensity that manages to keep the audience anticipating John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale’s eventual reunion (which made me get all teary-eyed because it was just so sweet how they found one another again). I believe the charm of this film lies in its simplicity and light humor. It's also a great break away from all the other films these days that seem to have nothing more than various gratuitous sex scenes. Oh, and John Cusack was grrreat (isn’t he always?), and Kate Beckinsale was just absolutely gorgeous. Patrick was soo right, it IS a great film, and now I know why it's one of his favorite top five movies. It really leaves an impression and is simply magical. *sigh*

I hope none of my sentimentality evoked any squeamishness.
